I just entered the Rare Artist contest and have a chance to win a $500 gift card. It is only open to artists with rare diseases. It will also bring some awareness to #NetCancer if I win…fingers crossed. 🙂 Please consider voting for me. A little extra money would go quite a long way for Lisa, David and I. 🙂
1. Click Here – It will take you to the Facebook page.
2. Go to the “Adult Digital and Photography” category.

Here is my entry and the description. This is a picture of my 10 year old son as we monkeyed about in the early morning. I have stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer (#NetCancer) and I am almost homebound. I was told at one point that I had 2 & 1/2 years live. Well, this is year four. I try to live everyday to the fullest and make memories with my son and my wife. In this picture, he was holding his toy headlamp in his hand but, just before that, he was wearing it and jumping around in the darkness of early morning. I was seated. JOY!
Here’s what I would’ve added. I would have added my short essay about trying to explain my cancer to David. Here’s a bit of it.
I walked with my son into the forest. We rambled down a small path near our house that the deer and fox use as a trail but had become wide enough for us to explore. We saw a great tree and he bounded toward it like a tiny fawn. His eyes were sparkling with curiosity. “This tree was once small and thin but had grown up to be a strong and mighty tree.”, I told to him. He couldn’t help but look at it. It was a modern giant and was tangled with vines…..
You can also vote for my friend Xochi Madera in the Adult cateogry. She entered the most amazing painting of a crow staring at it’s own reflection. 🙂
