I’ve just gotten some good news. My tumors shrank on Afinitor! Good news just in time for Christmas! I’ll take it! I was on Afinitor previously but I developed mouth sores and had to stop. You may recall that I experienced tumor shrinkage then too but we weren’t sure that it was the chemo or something else because we had a short gap where I was untreated. After a brief pause to allow the chemo to leave my body and for the mouth sores to go away my oncologist and I discussed various options and decided to go with a reduced dose.
My Tumors Shrank On Afinitor
Now, I’m not getting carried away…well, maybe a bit…..because the amount the tumors shrank was small but when you consider that they were growing that same amount at each scan I’m happy! It’s like a double blessing. Not only did they not grow but they also shrank. (Some did stay the same but not many.) So, I am continuing on my current course of treatment in hopes that things will continue to progress.
In Other News
As you know, I returned from Nebraska recently and I received some promising news from there as well. Well, actually the news was mixed. So, good news first. I may not have cancer in my bones. After getting an Octreotide scan about a year ago I was told that my cancer had metastasized to my bones. (They call them bony mets.) As it turns out, the Nebraska team did not feel that there was enough evidence to show this. They felt that the possible bone tumors did not “light up” enough to provide conclusive evidence that the cancer had spread to my bones. How about that! Now, the bad news. Liver surgery is not an option for me because the tumors in my liver were “diffuse” which means that they are spread throughout the liver. The tumors that are diffuse throughout my liver are all small so maybe…….just maybe….the afinitor will work on them too and maybe shrink them into oblivion. Maybe then I can get the surgery? Yes, I’m forever an optimist, eh? 🙂
So, good news just in time for Christmas…and some mixed news. I’ll take it! 🙂 The new plan is for me to stay on the afinitor both the doctors in Nebraska and here in North Carolina agree on that. We’ll wait and see how this works out.
Update: I just reread my post and realized that I was selling short my efforts to find a natural cure for my cancer. It’s just that I really don’t know if they are working or if it’s the chemo. Since I am doing both at the same time it’s hard to say. Right now I am taking quite a bit of supplements including IP6, Pancreatic Enzymes and a few other things. 🙂
Wish me luck,
